Where did the term bed Come From?
The mattress and bed are invented during the Neolithic Era. Beds are raised off the ground to avoid drafts, dirt, and pests. The first mattress probably consists of a pile of leaves, grass, or possibly straw, with animal skins over it. In 3600 B.C.E., Beds were made of goatskins filled with water; which were used in Persia.
What is bedding?
Bedding is the materials laid above the mattress of a bed for hygiene, warmth, protection of the mattress, and decorative effect. Bedding is the removable and washable portion of a human sleeping environment.
Bedding History
The oldest bed was originated in South Africa (77,000 years ago). The material of the mattress was layers of plants gathered together and burned to keep infections away. In 1000 B.C, the Egyptians created the raised bed. This bed consists of plain wood or covered with gold, jewels and ebony if you were of high social status. The simple platform bed was topped with a mattress made of wool cushions and linen sheets with a stone for head support (to add extra comfort). Now in the 20th century, beds are made to appease everyone. There are a completely different range of mattresses that are made for your comfortability; such as: waterbeds, airbeds, technical adjustable sleep settings, heated or cooling mattresses.
